Today I wanted to share a few food details from the Alice in Wonderland inspired birthday party I designed. During one of our meetings, Sara told me what types of food she would like to have for the party. I based the menu on her suggestions, but gave it a southern twist. I made an assortment of tea sandwiches, veggie shooters, and fruit skewers for hors d’oeuvres. I added Alice in Wonderland touches to the food by creating “Eat Me” toothpick toppers and flags to the chicken salad sandwiches and created heart, diamond, club and spade toothpick toppers for the tea sandwiches.
Park Plaza Gardens prepared the recipes I gave them (and it was absolutely delicious) for dinner. They made pecan crusted chicken breast with gravy, salad with peach salsa and a sweet dijon vinaigrette, biscuits, sweet potato casserole, and macaroni and cheese. My mouth is watering as I type this!
Sara’s mom had a collection of enamel tin plates she purchased in the UK that we used for dinner. I wrapped the flatware for each place setting in a paper napkin with a playing card. I also created “Drink Me” flags and added them onto red striped paper straws.
As a party favor, I created a simple playing card design that had 17 hearts on. It was a play on a traditional playing card but had 17 hearts in honor of the Sara’s 17th birthday. Local cookie shop, Cookie Cousins, took my design and brought it to life!
