Scout Woven Tee

Check out the top I sewed using the Grainline Studio Scout Woven Tee pattern and Cloud 9 fabric.

After taking a sewing class last fall, I’ve had the itch to get back into sewing. I sewed a ton in college (that’s how Sarah Hearts started) and just kinda stopped since I never could find the time to add another DIY to my list. After sewing up two out and about dresses and getting a ton of fabric in Nashville a couple weeks ago, I think  I’m hooked again. I’m not a seamstress by any means; I’m starting out with beginners patterns. I just love how fun it is to make clothing exactly how you want it. And there’s something pretty cool about wearing one of your own DIY projects.

To create this comfy cotton top, I used Grainline Studio’s Scout Woven Tee pattern. It was the first time I sewed facing into a neckline and their easy-to-follow instructions made it doable. The fabric is the way of flowers print from Cloud 9 Fabrics and is a lightweight, oh so comfy organic cotton.

Who are your favorite pattern designers for beginners? I’d love to find a few new patterns to try!

  1. That’s a great pattern and I love the fabric! Have you tried any of April Rhodes patterns? They are all great and very beginner friendly!

  2. Eeek! I’m a quilter and I’m trying to get back into garments. I wanted to start with a simple shirt that would work well with cotton – this is PERFECT!! So excited. I just hopped over to Grainline Studio and purchased the pattern. Can’t wait to get started on it! Thanks for sharing! :D

  3. I’ve never commented before – just found you through searching for a new top pattern – and that is such a cute top! Love the fabric. I love Colette Patterns – really great instructions and they are great about showing every step of the way and teaching new skills. Also See Kate Sew has cute patterns – I love the Adelaide top and have made a few already. Shwin and Shwin also has a lot of cute patterns. Thanks for sharing that fabric – it’s beautiful.

    1. Thanks so much! Oh I adore the Adelaide top! I’m going to have to add that to my “things to sew” list. Thanks for sharing!
