If you follow me on Instagram, you may remember I mentioned that I was going to be transforming our current guest room into my office while keeping my current studio. That means Sarah Hearts would occupy 2 of the 3 bedrooms in our home. And my ever patient and supportive husband said yes to my crazy plan (thanks, Kevin!) so I quickly begin the transformation.
My plan was to move my computer into the guest room, which is larger than the other room, so I could use the extra space to shoot photos. Up until now I had shot all my photos in our den because it has the best light in the entire house. Which totally works except once I got lighting equipment it was a pain in the butt to move it and pack it all up every time we had people over.
I had last painted the guest room a deep teal color so that meant it needed to be repainted a bright white. Even though I adored the old color, a bright white space would be the best for photos and for making the room feel even larger. I decided to use the same color as I used in the studio: Sherwin-Williams Harmony Interior Paint in Pure White. Since the old color was so dark, I used the Harmony Wall primer first and then ended up needing 3 coats of the interior paint. This room was a chore to paint but I’m so happy with the results. It’s bright and totally a blank canvas.
The old Ikea shelving, that I had painted gold, found a new home over my desk. The desk itself is a tabletop from Ikea while the hairpin legs I previously used with my built-in desktop.
I got a second hobby table for this room, and plan on using it as a side table when it’s not in use. It’s just so functional and I love how it can be wheeled between both rooms when needed. The lamp is a Target find and was also in my old studio room. The yellow storage canisters are from Orla Kiely and the white knick knack trays are from Poppin.
This 3-tier cart is a handy place to store my Neat scanner, Silhouette Cameo, camera bag and NPR radio. I store my marble slab, that I often use for photos, underneath because it’s so darn heavy! The other surfaces I shoot on are propped up to the right of the cart. The gold striped storage box is a plain white box I picked up at the craft store that I added some gold mylar tape too.
I got some of my favorite Instagrams printed and mounted them on the wall using removable foam mounting squares. Super simple and now my favorite little corner of the office!
I seriously can’t get enough of my pink sofa. It’s girly and mid-century modern and perfect for taking naps on. It’s where the headboard previously was in the room. The empty space to the right of the sofa is Daisy’s favorite nook in the office and I’m planning on making her a bed for that corner. Mostly likely with a polka dot print of course!
Here’s the untidy opposite side of the room. I’ve been shooting lots of projects this week so I’ve left my lights and reflectors out. I’m planning on sharing more details about what lights I use and some tips for shooting indoors soon.

I love everything about your new space! I’m super jealous you have a hobby table. I’m finding it hard to get creative stuff done near my computer. Where do you recommend looking for cool surfaces like your marble slab?
The perfect space! I want to paint every room in my parents’ house white. It’s so dark in here!
Your office looks beautiful! I really love how clean it is and that sofa is to die for! <3

It looks amazing, Sarah! I recently painted my office white too and I love the freshness it brings.
Do you mind me asking, where did you get that little gold lamp from…the one that`s clamped to the shelf in the first photo?
Thanks Lana! The gold lamp is from The Land of Nod! I highly recommend it!
