If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you probably know that I own a horse. (Yes, a horse!) I’ve owned Justin, a sweet quarter horse gelding, for over 15 years. He’s really my trusty companion—he moved from Miami to Tallahassee with me when I went to college, he moved with me to Orlando after college and soon he’ll be making his way all the way across the country southern California! And I seriously cannot wait!
Every year, on his birthday, I make him a batch of homemade carrot horse treats! He loves them so much that I wanted to share the recipe for those of you that also have a trusty steed you want to spoil. And if you have a smaller four-legged companion, many readers have shared that their dogs love them too!
Check out my video below for the recipe. And if you don’t have carrots on hand, you can easily substitute them for grated apples.
Ingredients: 2 cups grated carrots (about 4 large carrots) / 2 tablespoons vegetable oil / 1/4 cup molasses / 1 teaspoon salt / 1 cup oats / 1 cup flour / 1/2 cup of your horses’s feed or a sweet feed (optional)
Time: 30 minutes
