The home project I’ve been most excited about (and anxious to complete) is my new home office. Since moving to L.A. in September, I’ve been planning how best to organize and set up my new workspace. Our home is a bungalow after all and about half the size of our home in Florida so I definitely wanted to be intentional about how the space was arranged.
After chatting with my creative mom, I decided the best solution was to go up! Since the room is long and narrow, with doors at either end it made the most sense to utilize the wall space. My mom works at The Container Store, aka one of my favorite places ever, and helped design and plan the Elfa shelving. (If your mom doesn’t happen to work there, don’t worry, it’s a free service they offer to everyone).
I wanted to break up the space a bit and add a pop of color to the floor with a bright rug. After searching all over, I ended up choosing this striped lattice fringe rug from Rugs USA. I just love how it fills the room with color! Since the office has wood floors, I added a rug pad to help keep it in place.
There is about a 30″ wide space right when you walk in the room, so I decided to use that space to store fabric, tissue paper, and gift wrap. It’s just a combination of Elfa standards and double rails. Now that stuff is accessible and not getting squished under other supplies in the closet.
Let’s face it, when you see a photo of someone’s off and you don’t see a single cable (not even to their computer) that’s just not real! Since I have a ton of gadgets that all require power, I’ve tried my best to manage all the cables. I found these Command cord clips to be pretty much the best solution ever, especially when running cords down Elfa standards. These cable management boxes do a great job at hiding those otherwise unsightly power strips.
