When we were in Japan last week I sure got my daily fix green tea. I started my day with a cup of green tea in our hotel room since every hotel we stayed in had really great tea and a kettle in the rooms. And I ended almost every day with a sweet matcha treat.
Though I didn’t have matcha rice krispies treats in Japan, this is my way of bringing a little bit of it back with me. Though matcha is somewhat an acquired taste, if you’re matcha mad like I am, then you’re absolutely love this easy recipe!

Matcha Rice Krispies Treats
Ingredients
3 tbsp butter
1 – 10 oz. bag marshmallows
3 tbsp matcha powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
6 cups crisp rice cereal
Directions
- Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, add marshmallows and stir until melted and combined with the butter.
- Add matcha powder and stir until combined. Then add vanilla extract and stir.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add half the cereal and fold into the marshmallow mixture. Add remaining cereal and fold until all the cereal is evenly covered with the marshmallow mixture.
- Spray a pan with non-stick cooking spray and line with parchment paper. Spray the parchment paper. Pour the rice krispies mixture into the pan and spread it out into an even layer. Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting.

I’ve never had Matcha anything! I will have to try it out.
It’s definitely an acquired taste. I think most people love it or hate it, kinda like cilantro…but I LOVE it!
I’ve just been getting into matcha! Mostly in smoothies right now, but these look super interesting so I may just need to give them a try. XO
Oh I haven’t tried it in smoothies! Such a great idea!
Do you think the vanilla extract would be necessary if you used Vanilla Matcha?
No, I don’t think so!
