I’m loving how enamel pins and vintage brooches are making a come back. When I was a kid I would collect pins and brooches and wear them all on my jacket at the same time. Today I’m sharing a fun DIY for a more grown up, but still playful, way to make your own shimmery gold leaf resin heart pins.

The secret to making these cute pins is using a silicone heart shaped mold. And since you can easily make multiples at once, these cute pins make great gifts. They would also make adorable fridge magnets too—just glue a round magnet to the back of each one instead of a brooch bar.

Directions

  1. Pour 1 oz. of resin into a small plastic cup. Pour 1 oz. of resin hardener in a separate cup. Then pour the resin into the hardender.
  2. Use a popsicle stick to stir the mixture for 2 minutes. Add a pinch of gold leaf flakes and stir until they are incorporated.
  3. Set the resin mixture in a bowl of warm water for 5 minutes. This will help remove most of the air bubbles.
  4. Remove the cup of resin from the water and carefully pour the mixture into the heart molds filing each cavity half way. All it to dry for 24 hours. The resin will settle in about 30 minutes and the majority of the bubbles will disappear.
  5. Once it’s dry, pop the heart pieces out of the mold. Use craft paint to paint the back side of each heart. Allow it to dry completely.
  6. Use super glue to adhere a brooch bar pin to the back of each heart and then it’s ready to be worn!

  1. So adorable, Sarah!! I definitely need to make these for myself ASAP. P.S. I’m missing you and Rachel something terrible, but hope you’re having a great week back at home :) Happy Memorial Day weekend!

    1. Thanks, Jo! I’ve only used the brand listed in the supply list and every time it produces a really nice shine without having to do anything. I’d recommend trying that brand if you haven’t already.
