As I continue to catch you up on what I’ve been up to, here’s a little design work I’ve done recently. Above, a save the date card for my gorgeous friend Jen and her cute fiancé.
Save the date post cards for Amanda and Tim’s gray and yellow destination wedding.
I was honored to create the wedding stationery for my friends Janna and David. Hands down the most fun I’ve ever had making a wedding invitation. And yes, that’s an Ugly doll holding a Swedish flag.
I made toothpicks with our silhouettes and ages on them for our birthday party. I thought they would be a fun way to incorportate the party colors and theme while being functional. We only served appetizers and finger foods so they ended up being very practical.
They were very easy to make and only require a few supplies. Now I want to make them every time I serve an appetizer! I also think they would be really cute as cupcake “flags.” You can download the Word or Pages template I made and make your own. Here’s a little tutorial on how to make them.
1. You will need the following supplies:
- Toothpick topper template for Word
- 8.5″ x 11″ sheet(s) of colored cardstock (each page makes 8 toothpick toppers. Simply multiply this times the number of toothpicks you want)
- a 1.5″ circle paper punch (I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby for a while back, you can get a similar one at Michaels or JoAnns)
- PVA glue (other glues will work, but PVA is the best for bonding paper because it doesn’t wrinkle and is super strong, you can purchase it at your local art supply store or here)
- Paint brush to apply glue - 4″ skewers (if you making cupcake toppers, I would recommend using toothpicks)
2. Customize the template then print the file on cardstock. Once the desired amount of “toppers” are printed, cut the “toppers” into 4 rows of 4. This is going to allow you to punch them out. The use the circle paper punch to punch out each topper. Sorry I forgot to snap a photo of this step. I found it easiest to turn the paper punch upside-down so you can use the printed lines of the circle to help you align the paper punch.
After you punched out all the circles, use the paint brush to apply PVA glue to the back side of one of the paper toppers. I made the toppers have our silhouette on one side and our respective ages on the other side.
3. Place one toothpick or skewer in the center of the glued topper. You may want to pick it up and check that it will be displayed correctly (for example, if you typed a number or date, you don’t want it to appear upside-down).
4. Take another paper topper and firmly press it onto the glued topper. I found it helpful to pick it up and use my fingers to help align the edges of the two circles. Repeat steps 2-4 and until you’ve made all the toothpicks you want! Super easy and so cute!
How would you use these? As cupcake toppers or toothpicks for small bites?
This weekend I made holiday cards. I wanted to make something that wasn’t my typical vector-y aesthetic. I recently purchased a little set of alphabet rubber stamps that I had yet to use. I also have a large collection of washi tape now, so I decided to combine them both! Above are the two card designs I came up with.
The “Celebrate” card says, “For unto us a child is born,” on the inside. I used the washi tape as flags then used metallic thread and and sewed across the card.
The “Merry Christmas” card is blank inside and I just tore the tape and placed it side-by-side. Then I stamped and sewed on top.
Starting to wrap gifts for your friends and family? Here are some cute gift tags that you can make yourself. All you need to do is download the template below and print them out on any color card stock. Enjoy!
Update 10/27/11 :: I made a video tutorial for this DIY. Check it out!
Want an easy way to dress up your Halloween candy? Here’s a Halloween craft that anyone can do! With just a few supplies you can make cute, festive treat bags.
1. You will need:
• Candy
• Clear candy bags (I bought mine at Joann’s for $4.99/100)
• Stapler
• Ruler
• Construction or scrap booking paper cut to 4″ x 3″ rectangles (1/bag, so cut as many as you need)
• Pencil
• Bonefolder (not required, but awesome for making the folds)
• X-Acto knife (used for cutting out the squares, you can use scissors if you feel more comfortable)
• Washi tape, stamps, stickers… anything you want to use to decorate the bags!
2. On the short side of one paper rectangle, mark the center (1.5″).
3. Using the bone folder and the mark you just made to score the paper, parallel to the long side.
4. It should look like this.
5. Now use the bone folder to fold the paper in half (hot dog fold… it you remember that from kindergarten days).
6. Fill the bags with candy and place the folder paper around the top of the bag like the photo above. Staple the paper and bag together using two staples.
7. Use whatever you like to decorate the bag (I used washitape) and repeat the steps for each bag. Happy Halloween!
Today’s post features a cute printable project: a just married banner! Last weeks wedding post prompted me to create an easy banner than you could make at home. The banner is available in red, kelly green, sky blue, and black. It looks great printed on a light colored paper or patterned scrapbook paper (think tiny dots or florals). You could even print each character on a different colored or patterned paper. So if you’re feeling crafty, here we go!
Supplies:
• Download the Just Married Banner template in red, kelly green, sky blue, or black
• 12 sheets of 8.5″ x 11″ card stock (solid color or patterned)
• Scissors
• Glue stick or PVA glue and paint brush
• Coordinating .5″ – 1″ wide ribbon, approximately 8′ long
Directions: 1. Print out the template on your selected paper. Pages 7-12 contains 12 blank circles. These need to be printed as they will be the backs of each circle. 2. Cut out every circle along the gray line. You will have 24 circles when you are done.
3. Lie the ribbon on a table and arrange all the front pieces (those with type or the heart) in the correct order. Also place them equidistant from each other. 4. Apply glue to one of the back pieces. Place it behind the circle containing a letter (I like to with a circle in the middle of the banner and work my way to the outside). Make sure the ribbon is sandwiched between both circles. And press the edges together to ensure that the circles are firmly bonded. 5. Repeat step 4 until all circles are glued and it looks like the illustration above. Yay, you’re done!
This week’s wedding post features banners! A few months ago, I created the “Sew in Love” banner shown above for a photo shoot with Shannon Smith. Since then, I have fallen in love with the idea of using banners to communicate. There are so many great custom, handmade options out there. Above are few of my favorites.
Yesterday my invitation suite for Sean and Kelly was featured on the lovely paper blog, Oh So Beautiful Paper. Nole features pretty paper daily on her blog. I was delighted to see if featured yesterday! Please stop by and see all the photos here.
There are so many options when it comes to school stationery. I’ve rounded up a few favorites below.
1. The Non-Planner Datebook available at Supermarket.
2. Oh Joy! Notebooks. Available in an array of prints and patterns.
3. Russell + Hazel 8-tab index dividers.
4. Bird booklet from Orange Beautiful available at Supermarket.
5. Susy Jack* day of the week clip set and pencil cup and pencils.
6. Russell + Hazel signature pattern binders.
7. Raval page flags from Paper Source. These are amazing for students and teachers. Great for marking pages/note taking in books!
8. Russell + Hazel daily adhesive notes. Who can live without sticky notes?
