You guys, I am so excited about this. Last month I shared my favorite paint colors for front doors and my little Photoshop experiment on choosing a new color and I finally got around to choosing a paint color. I was pretty convinced of going with a soft lime green but at the last minute I went with a bright teal and I’m so glad I did!
I started with about 50+ teal paint swatches and narrowed it down to two colors. I bought samples of both colors and painted a small section of the doors. Much to my surprise I kinda hated both of them. So I went back to both Home Depot and Lowes, got even more swatches and ended up choosing Backstroke by Valspar. I used the the Duramax paint and primer in one in a satin finish. It only took 2 coats to get a a nice even coverage. I removed the door knob and let it dry the entire day. We added the door knob back on right before we went to bed. I also added a thin layer of vaseline to the tops of the doors to prevent to doors from sticking.
I planted some orange mums and swapped out the red door mat for this new, slightly more modern door mat from Target. I also replaced the weathered brass door knocker for an antiqued bronze one that matches the door knob. Simple project and such a huge impact. I love how you can notice the door color even at night. And now I can say, “Oh, we’re the house on the right with the bright teal door!”
Now my next step is finding an antiqued bronze wall light fixture that I actually light. What type of outdoor wall light would you recommend? I’d love something slightly modern but it’s proving to be harder to find than I thought!
I think the color looks phenomenal! You guys did an amazing job and the orange mums bring just enough color to supplement the new door.
Thanks so much Angel!
It’s gorgeous, Sarah!! What a great update =)
Thanks Carrie!
The color is perfection! So beautiful, and I especially love it with the antique bronze hardware.
Thanks Jen! Now I just need to find a great antique bronze wall light ;)
looks so beautiful. especially with your house color. your hard work to find the exact right color paid off!
Did you paint the outside, frame, and edges of the door in one day? Did you paint the inside of the door at all? Just planning on how to do this to my door!
