Bing asked me to give their new Smart Search a try so I put it to the test and used it to find some inspiration for the DIY project I was leading at The Crafty Social. I had been wanting to revisit painting wood beads since I first created solid colored bauble necklaces earlier this year. I thought they would make great Christmas gifts and it’s never too early to get a head start, right?

I started by entering DIY wood bead necklace into Smart Search . The new feature allows you to search the web, your device, and Bing smartly suggested searching for DIY painted wood bead necklaces so I gave that a try since that’s exactly what I wanted to create.

When the results popped up I immediately noticed how all the layout of the thumbnails was very clean and they were the same size which made it really easy to find the inspiration I was looking for. I also noticed that the search results were very relevant to what I was looking for.

The simplicity of the half painted beads by Laura Parke stood out to me and I knew I had to give that a try. I used washi tape to mask off half of the bead and painted the beads black, rose gold, and white. Once dry, I removed the tape and added some rose gold dots to the white beads. I strung the beads on a tiny antique copper ball chain so I could easily swap out the beads. This is one of the easiest DIY projects to do and would make such a great gift this holiday season. You can customize each necklace in your friends favorite colors or you could give them extra painted beads so they can create their own unique look.
