Today I’m sharing photos of our tiny galley kitchen and dining room. Our home is a bit atypical and our kitchen doesn’t have any windows. This makes for a very dark space with some tricky lighting. I did my best to capture the dining room on a sunny day with the light spilling in from our den, which is directly behind the dining room. I mentioned that the den was an addition at some point and you can definitely tell! What was once a window is now a very awkward opening between the two rooms. And where there were once sliding glass doors is now the opening between both rooms.
When we bought the house the awkward window was converted into a wood wine rack complete with hanging stemware storage that the previous owner had built himself. When we did our den remodel, Kevin and my dad removed the wine rack. We didn’t love the look of it and knew that it would only collect dust since we use a wine cabinet in the den to storage our glasses.
For the longest time we had no idea what to do with the “hole in the wall.” Then Kevin had this brilliant idea—to free up space in our tiny kitchen, why not hang the pots in the “window” from a hanging pot rack. Genius. Kevin installed it but it was a bit tricky since he had to drill into cinderblocks (since the opening was originally a window). One eye-hook was easy to install the the other snapped in two and required much more work. Several trips to the hardware store and a few YouTube videos later and he got it up!
Our dining room table was one of the few pieces we had at our apartment that we brought to our new home. I was a great buy because it has to leafs and can seat 6-10 people! We always had one leaf in it, but we recently opted for the smaller, square size for everyday. This also allowed for a bit more space making it easier to grab pots off the pot rack.
The “less than three” letterpress print was my gift to Kevin on our first anniversary. It’s paired with photos of us that a friend took of us while riding in the back seat.
And here’s our tiny galley kitchen. Just beyond the frame on the right is our LG stainless dishwasher that I don’t think I could live without. Shortly after we moved in, we purchased the fridge and the dishwasher. I like to joke that the left side of the kitchen is the vintage side and the right side is the modern side. On the left are the original range and oven.
We use small metal hooks to hanging measuring cups and spoons from the cabinets. And since there isn’t much storage, my lovely pistachio green Kitchen Aid sits on the counter.
These fun branch hooks are the perfect place to hang aprons, pot holders, and kitchen towels.
I just love how my Keurig matches the owl napkin holder than was my grandmothers. I’ve loved this little napkin holder since I was a child and it was one of my favorite parts of my grandmother’s home.
The left side of the kitchen forms a small “L” shape. This space doubles as seating area for breakfast and lunch and is also where I do all the prepping and cooking. You can find out more about how I use my iPad in the kitchen here.

I adore this space! The yellow keurig might be my fave ;)
Adorable! I don’t have a window in my kitchen either, so I feel your pain, but your photos came out great! It’s so much fun getting a peek into your home from across the country. xo
I’m noticing that our homes are very similar! I live in Orlando and our den was also an addition. Well, it had previously been a portion of the porch that the previous owners enclosed. We have the board walls you did in your den (we just painted them though) and a funny opening leading from the kitchen to the den that was also once a window. I’ve not touched our galley kitchen, but need to since it’s in need of a serious updating.
That’s too funny Ashley! What did you do with the old “window” opening?
Love the color of your Kitchen Aid. Mine is boring white. It’s fun to see your home.
