Every December I’m determined to send out Christmas cards but it seems that every December goes by without me doing that! So this year as one of my little personal goals, I was absolutely determined to send out cards. I was so determined in fact that I got Kevin involved. Since we’ve been married I’ve always wanted to take a “family” photo (I say it in quotes because our family is us and our dog and horse). When we were first married, Kevin adopted my horse Justin (and the vet and boarding bills that go with him) and that was our family. A year ago we adopted our rottie mix, Darcy, and I really wanted to take a group photo then. Since we didn’t get to it last year, I made Kevin come out to the barn, put a giant bow on our pup and a jingle bell halter on my horse and take a photo. Above are the results :)
I absolutely love our cards and think I’m going to frame one of them and put it out during each holiday season. One of the special things I did to our cards was make my own triple-thick paper. I’m a big fan of paper and definitely didn’t want our cards to feel flimsy or cheap. I’ve also been smitten by the gorgeous cards and triple-thick red striped paper over at Pinhole Press so I decided to make my own of sorts. After designing our cards I printed them on 65 lb. matte photo paper. Then I layered a sheet of 65 lb. red card stock and another sheet of the matte photo paper. The results are super subtle, but I think my designer and paper loving friends and family members are going to notice it and love them.
Are you sending out holiday cards this year? If so, what do you do to make them special?
