At my baby shower (which was already one year ago!) I received several amazing books for June. Packed with gorgeous illustrations, beautiful color palette and solid messages. And over the past few months we’ve acquired even more books for June so I thought it was time I rounded up some of our favorites and shared them on the blog.
My First Book of Patterns, board book – hands down my favorite book for June. I’m a sucker for patterns and adore the retro-inspired illustrations. Bonus that it was one of June’s favorites early on (probably has a lot to do with the high-contrast images but I’d like to think it’s because she might be a pattern-lover too).
Besos for Babies, board book – this English and Spanish book is June’s all time favorite and the reason she smiles big when you say, “besos!”
Planting a Rainbow, board book – a fun look at the process of planting a garden and learning different flower varieties.
Los Angeles Is…, board book – a must for every Angeleno baby (or parent)
Pantone: Colors, board book – I purchased this book years before June was even a thought because I’m a Pantone and color lover. June loves pointing at all the different colors (and maybe learning a few swatch numbers too?)
Alexander Girard Color – mid-century modern parents and art lovers will love this collection of Girard’s work in the kid-friendly format.
Tomorrow I’ll Be Brave – beautifully written and illustrated by Jessica Hische, whom I’ve been a fan girl of for years. A sweet and inspiring bedtime book and now my must-gift book for baby showers.
Little Horse, finger puppet board book – there are several different books in the series but we of course love the horse one. June goes nuts for this book and tiny enough that it’s good for flights although you might end up reading it a million times.
Hello Australia!, Hello Sydney! and Hello Melbourne! – the very first thing we purchased for June when we were in Australia when I was only 10 weeks pregnant. We got to meet the lovely and talented author/designer Megan extraordinaire at a pop-up craft fair. These books are a must for any Australian or if you just love learning about other cultures.
The Modern Alphabet – fun, graphic representation of the ABCs!
The Day the Crayon’s Quit – Kelly gave us this book and I was actually unfamiliar with it but after just one read I now know why it’s one of their favorite books. So clever and creative!
The Adventures of Lily Huckleberry in Scandinavia – my friend Audrey co-created this book and I was so excited to see if come to life after having been funded via Kickstarter. A wonderful book (soon-to-be-series) with an amazing message for adventurous girls.
New York: A Book of Colors, board book – several books in this city series, each with a different theme. This one teaches colors throughout the city (like New Yorkers dresses in black)!
Love, board book – adorable book with a simple message about love. Yep, I cried the first time I read it.
Goodnight Moon, board book – because this was a staple of Kevin’s childhood. We’ve read it to her every.night. since we brought her home from the hospital. A quick read that helped us lockin our bedtime routine.
