Our garage goes through cycles. Sometimes it’s super tidy but more often than not it’s really messy and cluttered. Does that happen to you too (I’m not so secretly hoping you say “yes”)? Ours is the chaos stage right now so I attempted to organize a few areas this past weekend using some these handy new Rubbermaid All Access containers. They are plastic storage containers that have a handy clear door on one side so you can easily access and find what’s inside. They also can be stacked so you can build a sweater, paper towel, craft supply, or whatever you choose to organize tower!

I headed to Home Depot and picked up two of the storage totes in the small size and one in the large size. My first area to tackle was the bottom shelf of a storage unit in the garage. We usually keep the back stock of paper items on this shelf. I replenished all the paper goods in the house and then filled the large container with the extra paper towels.

See, so much better now! Now when we need another roll of paper towels we can just open the front door and easily grab a roll. Now I think I need to add another for the toilet paper… and then another for pretty much everything else in the garage!

The other area I chose to tidy up was my collection of extra horse tack I had in the garage. After owning Justin for 13 years, I have a ton of extra stuff that I don’t need to keep out at the barn but need to hang on to. I had everything in a regular large plastic tote and his blanket in a tote bag (which was blocking the way to Kevin’s tool cabinet…oops). So I used two of the small containers to organizer all my horsey things. I love how I can now easily see what’s in each bin without having to lift and dig through the heavy old plastic tote!

  1. This is a really serendipitous post, I was just dreaming about organizing my basement! (Literally, dreaming about it, because I’m a crazy person). The bins do look really handy, especially for something like paper towels, where all the items are the same and you only need one or two at a time.
