If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve come to learn that I adore things with scalloped edges. Some of my favorite DIYs over the years are the ones where I put scallops on umbrellas, floppy beach hats, placemats and more. So today’s DIY project might not be a big surprise but it’s a major win in my book—because my wardrobe can never have too many scalloped details! And the best part? They can be made from start to finish in less than 10 minutes.

What are you waiting for? Check out the video tutorial below to see just how easy these DIY scalloped earrings are to make!

I’m generally a stud/post earring kinda gal but lately I’ve been obsessed with larger, statement earrings. I think they are fun accessory, especially with short hair. And these petite gold hoops I picked up on Amazon Prime are just 4 cm. They are large enough to be noticeable but small enough to not weigh down your ears. Because no one wants to be wearing heavy earrings.

DIY Scalloped Statement Hoop Earrings

Supplies

download the SVG file for your Silhouette

download the PDF file to print + cut

Silhouette Cameo or Portrait with a cutting mat
Silhouette deep-cut blade
white faux-leather paper
small bowl of water + paper towel
40mm hoop earrings
super glue

Directions

  1. Download the template of your choice from the list above + cut. If you’re using a Silhouette Portrait, Cameo or Curio, download the SVG file and open it in Silhouette Studio. Place a small piece (about 5″ x 5″) of white faux-leather paper onto a sticky cutting mat and load the deep-cut blade in your machine. Set the material to faux-leather and cut out the scallops. If you don’t have a Silhouette, download the PDF template and print it out. Cut out one of the scalloped shapes and use it as a template for cutting out the same shape using the faux-leather paper. You will need 2 scalloped pieces for one pair of earrings.
  2. Place the cut pieces of faux-leather paper in a bowl of water. Gently crinkle the paper as you “wash” it in the water. By wetting the paper and creasing it a lot it transforms into a realistic  faux-leather texture. Remove them from the water and place on a paper bowl and allow them to dry completely.
  3. Fold the dry scalloped shapes in half so the edges meet.
  4. Position the folded scallop shape onto the bottom of one hoop. Use super glue to glue the edges together. Press and hold for a few seconds or until the glue sets. Repeat with the other earring and you’re done!

These earrings would make a great Mother’s Day gift, just make sure you make a second pair to keep for yourself! They work up so quickly and are affordable to make so there’s no reason not too.

I chose to keep the paper as-is in the white color since I adore the gold + white combo. They could easily be customized in your favorite color by painting the faux-leather paper with a coat or two of craft paint after you cut it out.
